In 2025, WSTs focused on promoting best teaching practice and strengthening the use of an inquiry approach to teaching and learning within their schools, while also sharing best practice across the Kāhui Ako. Each WST led an inquiry tailored to the needs of their school, while linking their work to the wider Kāhui Ako.
All inquiries continued to align with the four strategic goals established in 2023:
Barrier-Free Access – ensuring great education opportunities and outcomes are within reach for every learner.
Learners and Their Whānau at the Centre – keeping learners and their whānau central to education.
Quality Teaching and Leadership – making a difference for learners and their whānau through effective teaching and leadership.
Future of Learning and Work – ensuring learning is relevant to the lives of young people today and throughout their lives.
WSTs also created their own videos, showcasing their inquiries and utilising digital skills. During the year, it was discovered that the Kāhui Ako would be disestablished, making these the final WST videos that will be captured and shared. All work remained underpinned by student voice and culturally sustaining practice, keeping learners and whānau at the heart of the inquiry mahi.
